Job Overview

Mon-Fri Day Shift - will be on call

  • Implements best practices and standards for equipment and process to promote efficient production and consistent quality of baked goods. Maintains the facility and assists department personnel in such a way that the bakery can produce high quality products on schedule and at minimum cost. Assists engineering department and personnel accordingly to established Key Performance Indicators.
  • This position has direct and indirect responsibility to ensure that all work activities under its span of control are performed with attention to the highest standards of food quality, safe processes, compliance with all appropriate legal requirements and a focus on continuous process improvement.
  • This position will be responsible for troubleshooting, programming automation and controls systems involving PLCs (programmable logic controllers) and training engineers and production on controls.   Must have proven experience in PLC logic and programming with any of the following PLCs: Allen Bradley, Modicon, GE Fanuc, Siemens, Automation Direct, Mitsubishi, Omron, Toshiba, etc. Must be able to create and read logic and flow diagrams for program design, programming, simulation and testing, and start-up. Assist on new automation projects working with vendors and contractors on installation and training.
  • The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in programming leadership as well as the ability to develop and implement standard engineering practices, as well as provide detailed documentation upon project completion.
  • This person will be the project technical lead and may be responsible for some project management activities. 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all work activities of direct and indirect reports are performed with attention to the highest standards of food quality, safe processes, compliance with all appropriate legal requirements and a focus on continuous process improvement
  • Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with maintenance programs, objectives, and standards – as directed by the Chief Engineer
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate plc programs and troubleshooting – as directed by the Chief Engineer
  • Responsible for troubleshooting, programming automation and controls systems involving PLCs (programmable logic controllers) and training additional engineers on controls.
  • Assist on new automation projects working with vendors and contractors on installation and training.
  • Develop and implement programs to ensure compliance with company safety standards
  • Knowledgeable of department’s operating budget. Submit recommendations for fixed asset expenditures to the Chief Engineer
  • Ensure legislative and regulatory compliance of all applicable government policies and programs
  • Maintain current and complete records of all activities – i.e., PM’s, safety, inventory, asset inventory, etc.
  • Coordinate and implement company policies and procedures in all areas
  • Perform other duties relating to the department assisting Engineering supervisors as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • A BS in Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering is desired but not required.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ supervisory experience in a food-manufacturing environment required.
  • Experience in Food Processing, Project management or Wastewater is a plus.
  • Understanding of commercial bakeries and bakery equipment
  • Understands the functionality of ingredients with time and temperature in the baking process
  • Understands the unique equipment in a bakery production plant, along with operation of that equipment relative to the baking process.
  • Ability to trouble shooting equipment to ensure optimum efficiency and product quality Team Dynamics – Empowerment, Collaboration, Motivation, and Enthusiasm - effectively leads, coaches, trains, and motivates people to follow established standards
  • Human Performance Management – effectively monitor performance of direct reports and provide feedback to improve performance

  • Personal Computer Skills - Literate with MS Excel, Word, AutoCAD, RS-Logics and Panel builder.
  • Electrical and electronic troubleshooting as well as mechanical skills.
