Job Overview

The Payroll Specialist collects and reviews employee information and working hours, calculates wages, prepares, and processes employee’s weekly payroll and maintains accurate payroll records within HRIS system. This position will include support surrounding HR information systems, compensation, and benefits. The Payroll Specialist applies corporate HR policies, procedures, and programs in accordance to company policy, federal and state laws.


  • Exports and reviews weekly payroll for multiple locations in the US for both Non-Union and Union Employees.
  • Serves as a back-up for payroll processing for our Canada location.
  • Responsible for administration of human resource processes such as payroll, timekeeping and attendance, federal and state compliance reporting, and unemployment claims.
  • Manually calculates Retro Payment Adjustments.
  • Processes Pay Cards in ADP Smart Compliance
  • Provides internal customer service to employees by answering questions, resolving issues, and providing information about payroll processes and programs, doing so in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Reconcile general ledger regarding payroll transactions.
  • Research tax issues and will assist in annual W-2 tax filings.
  • Runs daily Tax Reporting to create JV entries.
  • Moderate Excel skills to demonstrated ability of analyzing and presenting reporting data.
  • Assists with Quarterly Tax & Kansas Peak Reporting
  • Reconciles Direct Deposit, Taxes and Garnishment from our funding files vs ADP invoicing.
  • Complies monthly Union Dues check requests
  • Manages payouts of multiple company programs.
  • Responsible for Weekly & Monthly Reporting from timekeeping and personnel operating systems.


Education and/or on-the-job experience needed
  • Bachelor's degree, in accounting/finance or related field preferred
  • 3- 5 years of experience in Payroll required
  • Workday and ADP Smart Compliance payroll experience is Highly Preferred.


 Functional/Job-Related knowledge, skills & abilities needed

  • Excellent oral and written communication and ability to work with all levels of management.
  • Strong knowledge of tax and wage laws
  • Excellent organization and mathematical skills
  • Personal computer skills such as MS Office software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Experience in Union environment
  • Strong organization, analytical and project planning skills.
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines
  • Work effectively and collaborates well with others, internal and external.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
