Transportation Manager

Hostess Brands, LLC, is a leading sweet snacks company focused on developing, manufacturing, marketing, selling, and distributing snacks in North America sold under the Hostess® and Voortman® brands. The company produces a variety of new and classic treats including iconic Hostess® Twinkies®, Cupcakes, Ding Dongs®, Ho Hos®, Donettes® and Zingers®, as well as a variety of Voortman® cookies and wafers.

The Transportation Manager is a key member of the supply chain team responsible for monitoring day-to-day transportation operations of a 4PL managed transportation service provider including planning of customer, interplant, and inbound orders into shipments while ensuring transportation operations are balancing cost management and customer service goals. The Transportation Manager works within transportation and logistics operations but has frequent interactions with the entire end to end supply chain including Demand and Supply Planning, Customer Service, and Distribution.

Key Functions and Accountabilities:

• Escalation point person for day-to-day transportation operations.
• Lead 4PL managed transportation service provider with a continuous improvement mindset to ensure success of bakeries, vendors, and distribution centers as well as carriers and brokers.
• Manage carrier and broker performance including tender acceptance, on-time pickup, on-time delivery, shipment status update compliance, etc. through carrier score-carding and performance improvement plans, while balancing cost management and customer service.
• Assists in carrier procurement activities including carrier vetting (safety watch), carrier setup (contract execution, obtain necessary documentation, etc.), carrier training, and carrier rate management. Negotiates carrier rates as needed.
• Manages truckload, less than truckload, parcel, and express freight invoice exceptions for timely resolution.
• Acts as a liaison between various parties to provide timely resolution for Overage, Shortage, and Damage (OS&D) incidents as well as related accessorial charge approval requests.
• Supports and drives creation of internal and external development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), training, Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics, and continuous improvement ideas.
• Proactively identify and drive processes improvements that help eliminate waste or create efficiencies.

Minimum Requirements

• Minimum of five years of transportation experience.
• Minimum of three years of transportation team development as a supervisor or manager.
• Experience with SAP or similar Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is preferred.

Education and Experience:

•  Bachelor’s degree is required. Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Business Administration is preferred.

• Strong analytical skills.
• Basic understanding of DOT, state, and local regulations and the ability to apply and communicate these regulations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Well organized and detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
• Knowledge of import/export documentation and international transportation a plus.
• Knowledge of private fleet management a plus.
